Un pourcentage de niveaux de mercure exceptionnellement élevé ayant été repéré dans le sang des habitants de Saglouc, au Nouveau-Québec, une équipe a visité le village pour faire le point sur la situation et en tirer des recommandations. L'étude a porté sur les habitudes alimentaires, les ressources locales et des analyses des cheveux. Cet article analyse les résultats de ces enquêtes et montre comment, en combinant les données sur les habitudes et sur les ressources alimentaires, on a pu éclaircir le problème. Les recommandations faites à la communauté résultent de ces conclusions.
Abstract:
Following the identification of an unexpectedly high percentage of high blood mercury levels in residents of Sugluk, Northern Quebec, a team visited the community to assess the situation and provide advice to the people. The review included a study of eating patterns, harvesting data and further hair testing. This paper discusses the findings of the eating pattern survey and the harvesting data, and shows how in combination they helped to elucidate the problem. Finally it outlines the recommendations which were made to the community, based on the findings.
