La recherche sur la contamination de la chaîne alimentaire au Nunavik a mis en lumière des répercussions potentielles non seulement sur la santé physique de la population inuit mais aussi sur son bien-être social et économique. Cet article passe en revue les principales recherches en santé sur les contaminants environnementaux au Nunavik, trace un bilan du contexte socio-sanitaire dans lequel s'inscrivent ces recherches, fait état de quelques répercussions psychosociales vécues et décrit certains mécanismes qui sont présentement mis en oeuvre pour gérer le problème des contaminants dans une perspective de santé publique.
Abstract:
Research on the contamination of the food chain in Nunavik has highlighted potential impacts not only on the physical health of the Inuit population but also on their social and economic well-being. This article reviews the main health research on environmental contaminants in Nunavik, summarizes the socio-sanitary context in which environmental health research is undertaken, identifies psychosocial impacts felt to date and describes mechanisms that are currently being set up to manage the problem of environmental contamination in a public health perspective.
